Redshred Awarded Contract by Defense Threat Reduction Agency for AI-Powered Radiation Safety Technology

August 6, 2025

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

BALTIMORE, MD - August 7, 2025 - Redshred, a leading provider of AI-powered document intelligence solutions, has been selected by the Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) to develop RADIANT (Radiation AI Decision and Information Assistant for Nuclear Tasks), an innovative AI companion system designed to enhance real-time radiation safety during military operations.  Redshred is partnered with Dr. Manoj Mahajan of Stonybrook University.

The contract will support the development of advanced technology that uses artificial intelligence to analyze responses from warfighter instruments measuring radiation, providing real-time guidance to military personnel operating in environments with potential radiation hazards.

"RADIANT represents a significant advancement in radiation safety technology for our military personnel," said Jim Kukla, CTO of Redshred. "By leveraging our proprietary TRACEE technology and expertise in machine learning, we're creating a solution that transforms complex radiation data into actionable insights for non-experts in the field."

Redshred’s technology addresses a critical gap in current radiation exposure management protocols, which often require specialized knowledge not accessible to all military personnel. This innovative technology will help tactical units by recommending safe exposure times based on dose limits, predicting combat power degradation due to radiation exposure, and providing real-time interpretation of dosimetry data.

RADIANT will deliver enhanced performance in real-time data extraction, translation, and code generation. The AI companion will:

  • Recommend safe exposure times based on dose limits
  • Mitigate acute radiation effects on personnel
  • Predict combat power degradation over time due to radiation
  • Offer real-time dosimetry data interpretation
  • Ensure compliance with exposure regulations

The technology integrates artificial intelligence, machine learning, computer vision, and natural language processing to automate technical data extraction and provide actionable insights from complex radiation data.

Beyond its military applications, RADIANT has significant potential for other federal agencies and private sector markets involved in emergency response and disaster management, providing clear, actionable information during radiological incidents and facilitating rapid decision-making for public safety.
